Product Description

The Blackfeet people believe that a community, made up of Sky Beings live above them and that they were created by the Blackfoot God, Apistotoke. Sun, the most powerful of the Sky Beings, created the earth and all that is on it. Other Sky Beings would include the Moon, Morning Star and Star Child as well as all the stars in heaven. Below them ride the Blackfoot warriors often referred to as the Lords of the Plains. Their headdresses are adorned with straight-up eagle feathers and their horses are painted with protections symbol to keep them safe in battle and travel. Below the warriors lies the symbol for a teepee flanked on either sides by the symbol for the rolling hills of their homeland. Finally the power color black encases the warriors and their world as they fight to preserve their traditions and way of life. The Pendleton Lords of the Plains was designed by Montana Blackfoot artist Terrance Guardipee. Terrance attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico and currently lives in Seattle, Washington. Since graduating from the Art Institute he has become and internationally acclaimed artist who has earned numerous awards. His collections are housed in the Smithsonian as well as other museums both in the US and internationally.
